CANADIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTERS CONTEST
FRESH LOOK AT THE BEAUTY & EMOTIONAL SPIRIT OF CANADA!
Share Your Love of Art! Share Your Love of Canada!
Contemporary art plays an important role in telling the Canada’s story so for 2012-13, ARABELLA is looking to create an outstanding collection of current works that examine the emotional power of landscape art in shaping Canadian identity with a full sense of past, present and future.
The ARABELLA Canadian Landscape Contest is designed to be an exciting adventure in chronicling the current state of landscape painting in Canada. Now is the time to re-examine the country with a focus on capturing the full breadth, depth and colour that exists and to includes as many communities, peoples and cultures as we can from from coast to coast to coast.
As a publisher our goal is to produce a hard cover book that defines the Canadian Landscape painting genre in 2012-13. The book in combination with the ACL ARTISTS Hub site are designed to provide all contributing artists with wide exposure and recognition in the arts community, as well as opportunities to promote and sell their current works, either directly or through their gallery representatives. Everyone's art is celebrated as part of this great adventure in telling Canada's story through landscape painting!
As business colleagues, we are designing the ARTISTS HUB to provide artists with a unique marketing tool. Unlike other art contests, ALL ACL Artists are promoted on the ARTIST HUB, as well as the ARABELLA magazine blog!. Already we are seeing the ARTIST HUB as being a unique forum for professional dialogue among artists, sharing of ideas and inspirations, professional development, and promotion of arts events right across the country.
Artists can register at www.arabellacanadianlandscape.com . The contest is open to all North American artists and the final deadline for registration is January 1, 2013. Completed works must be submitted by June 1, 2013.

More on Norval Morriseau Legal Issues
Margaret Hatfield hopes Monday will be the last time she’ll be seeing Toronto for a while.
The 64-year-old retired school teacher has made the 300-kilometre drive to the city from her home in Sarnia close to 10 times in the past year and a half. Now it appears the end is in sight – the end at least of the trial portion of a suit Hatfield initiated three years ago against a Toronto art dealer for selling her a painting by the late, legendary Ojibwa artist Norval Morrisseau.

John Baird, Foreign Affairs Minister Halts Sale of Canadian Art from Embassies.
OTTAWA — Fourteen paintings by some of Canada’s best-known artists which were nearly sold by the Canadian government will be unexpectedly on view at the Lester B. Pearson Building on Saturday during Doors Open Ottawa.
“These paintings belong to the people of Canada,” John Baird, minister of Foreign Affairs, told the Citizen on Friday.
“Doors Open Ottawa was such a natural opportunity for people to see their art. Unless you travel to Canadian embassies you never get to see it.”
Last month, Baird halted the sale of 22 paintings, including works by Jean Paul Lemieux, Paul-Émile Borduas, Jean-Paul Riopelle, William Kurelek and David Milne.

MONTREAL — Hundreds of works of rare art have been damaged at one of Montreal’s main museums by heavy rains that battered the city, flooding basements and overwhelming the city’s aging infrastructure.

Sotheby Art Auction
TORONTO - An auction of Canadian art Sotheby’s Canada on Thursday night in Toronto yielded a sale total of $3.5 million.
A contemporary post-war painting by Paul-Emile Borduas entitled Froissement Multicolore was sold for $663,750, including the buyer’s premium.
The latticelike brushwork painting had a pre-sale estimate of $350,000-$500,000.
Robert Todd's landscape of Montmorency Falls, Que., set a record for the artist, earning $439,500 after several minutes of heated bidding.
Another artist's auction record was broken when Jack Bush's 1971 abstract canvas Glide sold for $267,000, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate of $120,000.
Collectors vied for pieces representing four decades of William Ronald's career, with Back Thru Spring besting its estimate of up to $80,000 by selling for $100,250.
One painting that did not sell was Mountain Sketch XCI by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris. The mountainscape had a pre-sale estimate of up to $600,000, but failed to find a buyer.
"Naturally, we’re disappointed the Harris didn’t find a new home tonight," said
Linda Rodeck of Sotheby’s Canada in a statement.
She said when a sale estimate is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, "the pool of capable bidders narrows so it’s always a little harder to place paintings this valuable."
"I’m confident that Sotheby’s be approached in the coming days with private offers to purchase it," added Rodeck.
